TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Two Alabama men’s golfers were named to the 2022-23 All-America Scholars list, which was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Wednesday. Canon Claycomb and Thomas Ponder were two of 548 men’s collegiate golfers from 194 programs around the country to have earned the recognition.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds during the year, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2 or higher.
Canon Claycomb, All-America Scholar
- Tabbed as a Third Team PING All-American and All-District
- Earned a spot on the SEC Community Service Team (2022, 2023)
- Named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll (2021, 2022, 2023)
- Led the team with 27 rounds (out of 37 total rounds played) of par or lower which set a school record in a single season
- Carded the second-best average strokes per round (70.65), average vs. par (-0.57) and number of rounds in 60s (15)
Thomas Ponder, All-America Scholar
- PING Southeast All-District
- Four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023) selection
- Finished the season third on the team in stroke average (71.56), average vs. par (+0.16), rounds of par or better (24) and rounds in the 60s (11)
