East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team opens the 2023-24 season on Monday, Sept. 11 at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.
The tournament will be played on the par-71, 6,269 yard course at Yeamans Hall, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on the first day. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 in Tuesday’s final round.
Michigan State tees off on the first hole, playing alongside host College of Charleston and UCF.

THE COUGAR CLASSIC FIELD
The highly-competitive 17-team field includes eight teams ranked among the top-30 in the country by The Golf Channel. Hosted by the College of Charleston the field includes Central Florida (21), Clemson (25), Florida (17), Furman, Georgia (23), Illinois, Kentucky (31), LSU (3), Maryland, Miami, Michigan State (29), Ole Miss (13), NC State, Penn State, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
The Spartans return all five players that helped win the NCAA Palm Beach Regional in May, the first regional win in program history, and finish tied for 18th in the NCAA Championships.
Junior Brooke Biermann led the team to the win at the NCAA Palm Beach Regional, winning her first collegiate title with a 3-under par 213. She finished third on the team in scoring average last year (72.89) and led the team with five top-20 finishes.
Junior Shannon Kennedy, who posted a 75.41 average, became a key part of the rotation at the mid-point of the season last year. She is coming off a successful summer, which included a finish as the medalist during the stroke play portion of the Michigan Amateur.
Senior Leila Raines was fourth on the team in scoring with a 73.85 average in nine tournaments and 27 rounds. Raines, who played in the 2022 NCAA Championships as an individual, battled an injury early last season but posted two top-20 finishes in the spring, including her first career win at the Moon Golf Invitational when she tied an MSU program record with a 203 over 54 holes.
Junior Katie Lu became the first MSU golfer to reach the final round of stroke play at the NCAA Championships, tying for 30th place with at 1-over par 217. She was second on the team in events…
