SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Starting the day in seventh, Washington made a move on Sunday at the Sahalee Players Championship, finishing with a final round one-under 287 to vault into third.
Three Huskies placed in the top-10, with Teddy Lin leading the way in 4th at even for the tournament. Petr Hruby was one shot back in a tie for fifth at one-over after firing a 71 on Sunday. Bo Peng rounded out the top-10 for the Dawgs, tying for 10th at three-over.
With its third place finish, Washington outpaced some of the nation’s elite, including No. 6 Texas, No. 13 Stanford, No. 17 Duke, No. 18 Oklahoma State and No. 22 Arizona.
“It was amazing, a great round,” head coach Alan Murray said. “To be the lowest round of the day in this field and the only team to be under par this round was kind of a statement about how tough the course was and how well our guys played.
“For those guys as individuals to finish so well in a field this strong is obviously great and as a result of their individual finishes we had a really good team day.”
Firing a final round 68, three strokes clear of any other player on Sunday, Lin’s fourth place finish was his highest since winning the Duck Invitational in 2022.
The Huskies made a charge up the leaderboard at the end of their front nine, with all five players scoring a par or better on holes 16-18, including four birdies.
Sitting in second at the turn, hole three proved to be a steep challenge for UW. However, the Dawgs rebounded with a strong final stretch. All four scorers birdied the par-5 sixth.
“Six is one of the few opportunities out here,” Murray said. “It’s a hard course, there aren’t many birdies out there. It’s a par five and if they hit a good tee shot, they can reach it in two… they did a good job of preparing for that pin position. They kind of had an idea of the slopes, how to use them and where they needed to be. That was a big hole for us.”
The Huskies remain in familiar territory for their next competition, hosting the Husky Invitational at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington, Sept. 18-19.
“We’re ready to tee it up again next week,” Murray said. “It’s a really good golf course. A different challenge than it was this week. There will probably be a few more birdies out at Golden Mountain so looking forward to that.”
