Spartans in Third Place at the Glass City Invitational


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team was in third place among 10 teams at 9-over par before play was suspended due to darkness at the Glass City Invitational, being played at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Florida shot a 1-over par 289 in the opening round and leads the field at 5-over par, while South Florida is in second place at 8-over par.

The Spartans shot a 13-over par 301 in the opening round, but were at 4-under par with three to six holes left to play on the back nine.

Day One Results

Junior Brooke Biermann led MSU in the opening round and was tied for fifth place at even-par 72, but was at 3-under par with five holes left to play and had taken the individual lead.

Junior Katie Lu shot a 2-over par 74 in the opening round, but was tied for sixth overall and was 2-under par with six holes to play.

Junior Leila Raines posted a 3-over par 75 in the morning round and was at 1-over par with seven holes remaining in the second round.

Senior Valentina Rossi was tied for 31st place at even par. She struggled in the opening round with an 8-over par 80, but was at even par with three holes left to play.

Sophomore Paula Balanzategui shot an 18-over par 90 in the morning round, but had bounced back and was at 2-over par with three holes left and tied for 64th place.

Junior Shannon Kennedy, playing as an individual, finished at 10-over par 82 in the first round, but was at even par with three holes left.

Freshman Ana Sofia Murcia, also playing as an individual, shot a 1-over par 73 in the opening round, but was at 10-over par with four holes left.

Michigan State is back on the course on Tuesday morning, Sept. 26. All teams will finish the second round starting at 8:30 a.m. and then play will continue through to the third and final round.
