Gamble Leads Cougars During First Day at Ron Moore Intercollegiate


HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – Junior Madelyn Gamble shot a 2-under 70 to lead Washington State during the first day of play at the 2023 Ron Moore Intercollegiate Friday, played on the par-72, 6,648-yard University of Denver Golf Course.
 
As a team, the Cougars posted an 8-over, 296, and are tied for 12th after the first round.
 
Gamble was in control throughout the first 18 holes as she posted two birdies on a bogey-free round. Both birdies came on par 5’s as she ended her day with a birdie on 18 and in a tie for 11 th overall.
 
Junior Sarah Skovgaard-Bils was steady throughout her round, starting with a birdie on her opening hole before added two more on the day. She finished her first round at 1-over, 73 and in a tie for 39th place.
 
Freshman Alice Johansson, coming off a second-place finish in her last outing, shot an opening-round of 3-over, 75. Johansson, who sits tied for 56th overall, recorded her lone birdie of the day on the final hole, ending on a positive note heading into Saturday’s second round.
 
After a slow start, graduate student Danielle Suh ended her first round with birdies on two of her final three holes as she recorded a 6-over, 78, tied for 71st after 18 holes. Freshman Sara Piñeros, playing in her first collegiate team event, had two birdies on her round en route to a 6-over, 78, placing her tied for 71st overall.
 
Round Two at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate includes 18 holes Saturday, with WSU teeing off at 7:30 a.m. PT.
