Cal Makes Up 13 Strokes On Day 3
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – After starting the day 13 strokes out of first place, the California women’s golf team put forth its best round of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate – and best round among the 14 teams competing Sunday at the University of Denver Golf Club – to claim its third consecutive tournament win.
Just 12 days after setting an all-time program record with a 28-under-par 836 at the Molly Invitational, the Bears secured their second-best 54-hole team score ever, carding a collective 21-under 843 that topped tournament host Denver by one stroke. Cal finished with the most birdies (57) of any team and shot a stellar -8 on par-4s over three days.
Sophomore Olivia Lee (70-70-71 – 211) led the way with her second consecutive top-10 individual finish at 5-under on the weekend, while freshman Constance Fouillet enjoyed the Bears’ best round of the tournament with a clutch 3-under 69 in round three.
Junior Kaylyn Noh (70-71-71) and senior Cristina Ochoa (71-71-70) both tied for 13th place at 4-under 212. Sophomore Adora Liu finished in 21st place, shooting 1-under 215.
Overall, it was an extremely balanced effort for the Bears, who earned their third win of the last two weeks thanks to the fact that 13 of their 15 individual rounds were under par-72.
Cal will carry its unprecedented, record-setting hot streak into its next competition on Oct. 20-22 at the Stanford Intercollegiate.
