Buffs Drop To 17th At Stanford Intercollegiate

STANFORD, Calif. — The University of Colorado women’s golf team fell one spot to 17^th in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate played at the Stanford Golf Course on Saturday.
 
Colorado shot 12-over, 296, four strokes better than Friday’s first round, but not good enough to keep pace with the field. The Buffaloes’ mark was the second-highest team round score of the day.
 
No. 11 Southern California and No. 28 Virginia are tied for the team lead after two rounds at 5-under, 563. No. 7 UCLA is one shot back at 4-under with top-ranked and host Stanford at 3-under.
 
Colorado had a solid beginning, playing the front nine at 3-over, shooting more birdies on that half (nine) than the entire first round (eight). The Buffaloes struggled on the back side though with nine bogeys and three doubles.
 
“The team was playing better today and making some progress up the leaderboard but unfortunately we had a very tough finish,” Colorado head coach Anne Kelly said. “Hopefully we can learn from this experience and understand it’s important not to let those sots slip away, especially at the end of a round against this top ranked field of teams.”
 
Sophomore Morgan Miller led the Buffaloes with her eighth sub-par round of the fall season shooting 1-under, 70. Miller had three birdies on the front but still found herself at even at the turn. She dropped two strokes with her first double bogey of the fall season at No. 10, but erased that two holes later with an eagle on the 477-yard par-5, No. 12.
 
Miller finished off her round with five pars and a birdie on the course’s longest hole, the 503-yard, par 5, No. 16. She is tied for 23^rd at 1-over, 143.
 
“Morgan had somewhat of a rollercoaster round, but hung on and was able to shoot another under par round,” Kelly said. “She continues to improve and mature as a golfer.”
 
Junior Maria Eidhagen Harrouch and freshman Francesca Sumcad both shot 3-over, 74, in the second round. Eidhagen Harrouch recorded three birdies during her round and was 1-over through 16, before a double-bogey on the 167-yard, par 3, No. 17. She is tied for 68th place overall at 8-over, 150.
 
Sumcad made a four-stroke improvement from her first round score. She was even through 12, including a birdie at the 490-yard par 5 No. 7, but fell back to 1-over at No. 13 and dropped a pair of strokes on…
