Monday is round one of the St Andrews Links Collegiate, a four-team men’s and women’s golf tournament in St Andrews, Scotland, the home of golf.
Carolina is one of four schools competing in the three-day tournament, which will be played Monday and Tuesday at the Jubilee Course and Wednesday at the Old Course, where the game began centuries ago.
The Tar Heels are joined by Georgetown, Notre Dame and Vanderbilt. The teams will play six players (rather than five as in most college tournaments) with the best five scores counting toward the team total in stroke play Monday and Tuesday.
The top two teams will play a championship match on Wednesday at the Old Course with the third- and fourth-place teams through 36 holes of stroke play also squaring off on Wednesday.
The Tar Heel men’s lineup includes Maxwell Ford, Austin Greaser, Dylan Menante, Kenan Poole, Peter Fountain and Hampton Roberts.
David Ford, the No. 5-ranked amateur in the world, is not competing as he just wrapped up play in the World Amateur Team Championship in the United Arab Emirates. Ford and Vanderbilt’s Gordon Sargent, the No. 1-ranked amateur in the world, who will also not play this week at St Andrews, helped lead Team USA to the WATC title.
The Carolina women’s lineup for St Andrews includes Kayla Smith, Ing Iadpluem, Reagan Southerland, Crista Izuzquiza, Natalia Aseguinolaza and Vilde Nystrom. The UNC women will also be without two players as Megan Streicher (South Africa) and Inez Ng (Singapore) are playing October 25-28 in the women’s World Amateur Team Championship in Abu Dhabi.
The St Andrews Links Collegiate will be broadcast on Golf Channel at the following times:
