LOXLEY, Ala. – Playing in its final tournament of the fall season, the No. 13 Alabama men’s golf team will compete this weekend at the two-day, 54-hole Steelwood Collegiate. The tournament will feature 36 holes on Saturday followed by 18 Sunday at the par 72, 7032-yard Steelwood Country Club.
The tournament will begin Saturday morning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT. Live stats throughout the weekend can be found at Golfstat.com.
The Lineup
- Team leader Nick Dunlap, who just arrived back after helping Team USA claim the Eisenhower Trophy for the first time since 2014 at the 2023 World Team Amateur Championship, will rest this week after a busy month of competing for the Tide and Team USA
- Despite his absence, Alabama will have a strong starting five as all five starters enter the tournament averaging 72.20 strokes or better per round
- Canon Claycomb, whose 70.38 average and -0.86 average vs. par rank second on the team behind Dunlap, will lead the Crimson Tide into this weekend’s tournament
- Transfer Austin Coggin, who has a pair of top-20 finishes in his two starts this year, is just behind Claycomb at 71.67 stroke average and -0.83 average vs. par
- JP Cave (72.13), Thomas Ponder (72.13) and Jonathan Griz (72.20) round out the Tide’s starting five
- Both Jones Free and Luke Coyle will also see action competing as individuals throughout the event
- Cave is coming into the event fresh off earning the first medalist honor of his career when he won the MartinFed Invite at Turtle Point (15-under par 201)
Tournament Preview
- The 14-team field includes No. 13 Alabama, No. 27 Chattanooga, Indiana, Kansas State, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Rice, Rutgers, South Alabama, UAB, Virginia Tech and West Virginia
- Alabama will begin the event Saturday on holes No. 1-4 and play continuous in order to complete the opening two rounds of tournament play
- The Crimson Tide will be paired alongside hosts South Alabama and Kansas State on day one
- The Steelwood Country Club course was designed by former Alabama golfer Jerry Pate and was ranked by GolfWeek as “One of the Top Five Private Golf Courses in Alabama” in 2019
