Walker Announces Four Following Signing Day

STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford women’s golf is in a great place. The team is one of the top-ranked teams in the country, and The Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women’s Golf, Anne Walker, is making sure the future looks even brighter. Walker and the Cardinal announced on this week the addition of four to next year’s roster, and to say it is a loaded group is an understatement.

“It’s rare in golf that you get to welcome four world class athletes in one signing period; this is a notable moment for our program,” mentioned Walker about the newest group of Cardinal golfers. “We are excited about not only having them here together next fall but also, watching them grow together over their four years.”

“They will undoubtedly bring many titles home to The Farm together and we can’t wait to work with them on achieving their personal goals whilst also immersing in our team culture and tradition.”

Cardinal fans can read up more on this exciting group below:

Leigh Chien – Irvine, Calif.
Staying in the state of California, Leigh Chien is a highly touted recruit from Southern California. Based out of Irvine, Chien is ranked #97 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, and she already has a lot of high-end experience. She has made it to the semifinals of the 2023 USGA U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship and finished runner-up at the 2022 Rolex Tournament of Champions. Just last week, Chien was named a First Team Rolex Junior All-American for the fourth time in her career, the most of anyone honored this year.

From Chien: “Officially a Cardinal! I can’t wait to join the team next year!”

Meja Örtengren – Linköping, Sweden
One of two from Sweden in this year’s group of new Card is Meja Örtengren. She ranks highest among the incoming class in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, placing tenth on the list while ranking inside the top-three in the European Golf Association U18 rankings. Örtengren beat out soon-to-be teammate Leigh Chien in the 2022 Rolex Tournament of Champions for the title, defending her crown from 2021.

From Örtengren: “I am so incredibly excited to become a part of the Stanford family. To be surrounded by such amazing people in both sport and academics will be inspiring and I can’t wait to start. I am so grateful for this opportunity to grow as a player but more importantly as a person.”
