TUCSON, Ariz. – For the second time in 2024, the Pac-12 Conference Golfer of the Week has been a Wildcat as freshman Charlotte Back earned this week’s honors. Back won all three of her matches during the Therese Hession Regional Challenge to help the Wildcats defeat No. 15 Clemson and No. 25 Mississippi State.
This week’s honor gives Arizona Women’s Golf its second consecutive Pac-12 Golfer of the Week after Gile Bite Starkute’s honor after her record-breaking win at the Match in the Desert. Back also becomes the first Arizona freshman to win a weekly or monthly honor from the Pac-12 since Vivian Hou was named Golfer of the Month in March of 2020.
Her weekend at Palos Verdes Golf Club in Southern California began with a 3 & 1 victory over South Carolina’s Sophia Burnett. Back won the first two holes of her first match and never looked back in her victory. Later that day, Back claimed her second win of the event with a 4 & 2 match play decision over Surapa Janthamunee from Mississippi State.
The native Heidelberg, Germany claimed her third victory of the event on Sunday in her team’s 4-1 win over the Clemson Tigers. Back defeated Annabelle Pancake, 2 & 1, to become the only Wildcat to go undefeated in the match play event.
Arizona Women’s Golf will return to action for a third time in 2024 when it participates in the annual Pac-12 Preview at Nanea Golf Club on the Big Island of Hawai’i on Monday, Feb. 19.
