CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – Graduate student William Moll sits inside the top five on the player leaderboard after two rounds of play at the 2024 Cabo Collegiate after he carded 3-under 68 to end Monday’s second round in a tie for fifth.
As a team, No. 3-ranked Vanderbilt carded 5-under 279 to pull within seven strokes of first place, held by the host school Arkansas. The Commodores pace the field in par-5 scoring, as Vandy is shooting 11-under. Vanderbilt also leads the tournament with 39 birdies. The Dores head into Tuesday’s finale with a two-round score of 2-under 566.
“I am pleased with the fight our guys showed today,” said Vanderbilt men’s golf head coach Scott Limbaugh. “Everyone competed through the finish line, which is very important and certainly a standard we hold ourselves to. We haven’t had our best stuff yet this week but we found a way to shoot a good round. It’s exciting to see William put another solid score together and he looked in control of his game all day. It was great to see Matthew bounce back after a tough first round and he really gave the team a spark we had to have. John played a great round and it’s awesome to see him tie for the low round of the day and be excited about this opportunity.”
Moll moved up three spots on the player leaderboard during Round 2 after he carded 3-under 68. The Houston, Texas, native collected six birdies in the round to give him a total of 11, which is tied for the second-most collected by an individual through 36 holes of play at the Cabo Collegiate. Moll sits at 5-under 137 going into the final round, just three strokes off the lead.
John Broderick, who is the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, posted the best round of his collegiate career on Monday, as the Wellesley, Massachusetts, native carded a career-best 6-under 65. Broderick, who is playing as an individual at the Cabo Collegiate, tied for the lowest score in Round 2, as he moved up 45 spots on the player leaderboard to end his day in a tie for 28th with a score of 2-over 144. Broderick was on fire throughout the round, as he birded seven holes. He concluded the day with back-to-back birdies on Holes 14 and 15.
Senior Cole Sherwood sits in a tie for 20th after 36 holes of play. The Austin, Texas native ended Round 2 at even-par 71 for the second-straight day, as he heads into Tuesday’s final round with a two-round score of 142.
