St. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Rutgers men’s golf is ready to host the second Johnnie-O at Sea Island.
The two-day event starting March 9th will feature 14 teams including 12 ranked in the top 100. They include Augusta, Cincinnati, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas St, Marquette, Michigan St, Minnesota, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas, and North Carolina – Greensboro.
The event takes place at the Sea Island Resort on Plantation Course. The course plays at a par 72 and spans 7,016 yards. This is the first year playing on this course after playing on the Seaside Course last year. Noah Kumar’s fourth place tie led Rutgers to a sixth place finish.
The Scarlet Knights made history last time out at the Colleton River Collegiate. The set the school record for a round of 18 vs par, shooting 272 (-16) in the third round. Weston Jones 6-under in round three propelled Rutgers to a third place finish, their highest since 2019.
“Of course, I’m fired up,” Weston Jones had to say about the event. “The Johnnie-O is one we circle on our schedule every year. We have a sick field for it this year. I think all the guys are fired up for it. We’ll have our whole team there which is awesome. We’ll have a couple more days down there to prep. We have some momentum to ride so we have to go after it.”
Rutgers will travel to Columbia, Missouri to play in the Tiger Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Missouri University on Monday April 8th.
