DURHAM – Coming off its second win of the season in record fashion, the Duke women’s golf program has moved to No. 9 nationally in the National Collegiate Golf Rankings as the Blue Devils get set to close the regular season next week.
Since the 1999-2000 season, the Blue Devils have been ranked in the top-10 of the national polls at one point every year under the direction of head coach Dan Brooks, who is in his 40th season at Duke.
At the Florida State Match Up, Duke drained a season-high 31 birdies en route to shooting a school-record 24-under, 264, in the second round, which was the third-lowest 18-hole score in NCAA history. The Blue Devils went on to finish the event with a 30-under, 834, to win by 10 strokes over host Florida State.
In Duke’s two victories on the season, the Blue Devils have now shot two of the lowest 18-hole scores in school history as Duke shot 17-under, 271, in the final round at the Landfall Tradition to come-from-behind to win the team title.
In the rankings, Stanford holds the top slot, while UCLA, Wake Forest, South Carolina, LSU, Southern California, Texas, Arkansas, Duke and Auburn round out the top 10.
Duke also boasts five golfers ranked in the top-120 of the individual rankings as well – Emma McMyler (58), Katie Li (68), Phoebe Brinker (96), Anne Chen (100) and Andie Smith (117).
Li, a native of Basking Ridge, N.J., won her first collegiate event in Tallahassee as she posted rounds of 66, 66 and 72 to shoot 12-under, 204. Her 36-hole score of 132 was a new school record. The score of 204 by Li was tied for the third-lowest 54-hole score in Duke history on a par-72 course.
She was the first freshman in the ACC to win a tournament in 2023-24 and just the sixth rookie in the top-70 of the national rankings to win an event.
Duke will close the regular season March 25-26 at the Old Barnwell Match Play in Aiken, S.C.
