Bears Continue Climb In Final Round

Fouillet, Ochoa Both Earn Top-20 Finishes

NAPA – For the second straight day at the Silverado Showdown, the No. 25 California women’s golf team posted its best round of the week and leaped up the team leaderboard, settling in fifth place with a score of 18-over 882 to close out the tournament.

Freshman Constance Fouillet (75-69-72 – 216) and senior Cristina Ochoa (73-75-71 – 219) both finished in the top 20 to lead the Golden Bears. After entering the day with an even-par 144, Fouillet (75-69-72) stayed consistent, shooting an even-72 to place eighth individually. It was the third top-10 finish of her debut season.

Ochoa began her day with 11 straight pars before finally breaking the trend with a bogey on hole 3. However, she immediately responded with back-to-back birdies, ending round three with the Bears’ lowest score at 1-under-71 and in a tie for 18th place.

Senior Rina Tatematsu (78-75-72) started the final round brilliantly, putting away six birdies on her first 16 holes. That brought her total to 11 birdies, good for fifth-most in the competition. She finished the day by matching Fouillet’s even-par 72 and was 9-over 225 for the tournament.

Sophomore Adora Liu (77-77-75 – 229) had her best round of the competition with a 3-over 75 to round out Cal’s scorers.

This was the fifth time in their last six tournaments that the Bears made a major move up the standings by saving their best round for last. They will compete for the final time ahead of NCAA Regionals when they travel to Pullman, Washington, for the Pac-12 Championship on Apr. 21-23.
