Women’s Golf Finishes in Second Place at Lady Buckeye Invitational


East Lansing, Mich. – Paced by two players in the top-10 and three in the top-20 overall, Michigan State’s women’s golf team closed out the regular season with a second-place finish among 12 teams at the Lady Buckeye Invitational, held on the Scarlet Course on the campus of Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.

The Spartans finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a score of 13-over par 877 (291-291-295).

Host Ohio State won the tournament, firing a 7-under par 857 (291-283-283).

The Spartans were in second place at 13-over par 877, with Purdue in third place at 17-over par 881, while Indiana finished in fourth place at 25-over par 889 and Wisconsin rounded out the top-five teams at 29-over par 893.

Final Results

Sophomore Paula Balanzategui led the Spartans, tying for fourth place at 1-over par 217 (73-73-71).

Junior Katie Lu tied for seventh place at 2-over par 218 (72-72-74) and senior Leila Raines tied for 11th place at 6-over par 222 (75-72-75).

Junior Brooke Biermann finished at 9-over par 225 (72-74-79) and tied for 23rd place while senior Valentina Rossi tied for 36th place at 13-over par 229 (74-80-75) and junior Shannon Kennedy finished in a tie for 67th place at 14-over par 240 (85-78-77).

Competing as an individual, freshman Ella Weber tied for 39th place at 13-over par 229 (80-80).

The Spartans open postseason play on Friday, April 19, playing in the Big Ten Championships at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Md. The teams will play 18 holes each day with the tournament running through Sunday, April 21.
