CAREFREE, Ariz. – No. 8 Arizona Men’s Golf will play its fifth event of the season in the state of Arizona when it competes at the Pac-12 Championships at Desert Forest Golf Club, beginning on Friday, April 26. The Wildcats have won two of their three tournaments this season in their home state with a match play win over Arizona State at the Copper Cup and a victory at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate. Arizona has also seen recent success on the individual side with a pair of wins by Tiger Christensen and Filip Jakubcik in their last three events.
“Our team’s mindset going into postseason play is focused and determined,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “We’ve had a lot of success throughout the year, and we have grown as a group each step of the way. Desert Forest will have a tremendous desert-style links golf feel to it that our guys are excited to compete at. We are ready to execute our gameplan, attack pins and compete for a conference championship.”
Similar to the Western Intercollegiate last week, the Pac-12 Championships utilizes six-man lineups for teams with the five lowest scores counted each round. The playing format is 72 holes over three days with Friday’s opener being 36 holes.
Arizona’s golfers in the lineup this weekend are Tiger Christensen, Filip Jakubcik, Yannick Malik, Zach Pollo, Johnny Walker and Tianyi Xiong. The six Wildcats have accounted for three tournament victories in addition to 13 other top-10 finishes this season. Jakubcik is also the reigning Pac-12 Golfer of the Week after his victory at the Western Intercollegiate.
