Hokies place ninth at Cle Elum Regional


CLE ELUM, Wash. – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team placed ninth at the Cle Elum Regional, which concluded Wednesday at Tumble Creek Club (par 72, 6,306 yards). Over the three-day regional, the Hokies carded a 911 (308-301-302).

Top-ranked and No. 1 seed Stanford topped the team leaderboard behind a 17-under 847 (284-274-289). The Cardinal placed four in the top five of the individual standings, paced by medalist Rachel Heck’s 8-under 208 (72-65-71). Heck’s 7-under 65 in the second round tied the women’s course record at Tumble Creek Club.

Duke (+1) and Virginia (+12) finished second and third, respectively. Arizona State and San Jose State rounded out the top five teams punching their ticket to the national championship in Carlsbad, California.

Emily Mathews led the way for the Hokies with a 5-over 221 (72-73-76) to tie for 13th. The Mebane, North Carolina native recorded her team-leading fourth top-20 of the season. Fellow North Carolina native Morgan Ketchum tied for 24th at 9-over 225 (75-77-73).
