In the second round of the 2019 Desert Classic, Phil Mickelson got to 16-under for the tournament, shooting a 4-under 68 on Friday at the Nicklaus Tournament Course, good enough for a two-stroke lead over the field heading into Saturday.

PGA West’s Stadium Course in La Quinta, California is the host course for the 60th anniversary of the Desert Classic. It is one of three courses in use during the tournament, which includes the Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West and La Quinta Country Club. Previous winners Jason Dufner, Jhonattan Vegas, Pat Perez and Charley Hoffman return to La Quinta. In 2018, John Rahm won the CareerBuilder Challenge with a final-round 67, finishing at 22-under 266.
