'Cats Win Inaugural Women's B1G Match Play Championship


Palm Harbor, Fla. — Northwestern opened up its 2022 spring campaign by winning the inaugural Women’s Big Ten Match Play Championship.
 
The ‘Cats reeled off three match play victories to take the top spot at the event hosted in Palm Harbor, Fla., at the Island Course – Innisbrook Resort. The Wildcats claimed a 3-1-2 win over Penn State in the quarterfinals before topping Ohio State, 3-2-1, in the semifinals to set up a title showdown with Purdue.
 
Northwestern used wins from Kelly Sim, Jennifer Cai, Jieni Li and Lauryn Nguyen in the finals to defeat Purdue, 4-2-0. Sim was the lone Wildcat to win all three of her head-to-head matches.
