Delavallade Paces Women's Golf in Opening Round of UCF Challenge


ORLANDO, Fla.  – The Penn State women’s golf team finished the opening round of the UCF Challenge right at their season average of 8-over, 296, and sit tied for 17th in the 18-team field.

Kentucky and Wake Forest are leading the way at 12-under and 11-under, respectively while Miami and Auburn are tied for third at 9-under and Old Dominion and NC State are tied for fifth at 6-under.

 

“We were right around our season average today, but we can always be better and I’m confident we can do that,” mentioned head coach Denise St. Pierre. “We left some shots out there and there is certainly room for improvement.”

 

Junior Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) led the way with a 1-under, 71, and is tied for 25th individually. The junior had three birdies over her final 12 holes of the day with a lone bogey during that stretch.

 

Freshman Katie Scheck (Greensboro, Ga.) continued her strong play finishing the day with a 2-over, 74, including an even-par back nine in her first round as a member of the team lineup this season while her classmate Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) carded a 3-over, 75, highlighted by an even-par front nine and a stretch of 14 consecutive pars.

 

Junior Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas) rounded out the countable team scores with a 4-over, 76.

 

Senior Taylor Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) and freshman Michelle Cox (Allentown, Pa.) finished the day at 10-over and 13-over, respectively.

 

The Nittany Lions are back at it for the second round with another shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. on Monday morning.
