Women’s Golf Set for UNF Collegiate This Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  – The Penn State women’s golf team will head back down to the Sunshine State for the North Florida Collegiate beginning on Monday morning. The two-day event will run through Tuesday afternoon.

Monday features 36 holes of continuous play beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Penn State will be paired with Jacksonville State and Xavier for the opening two rounds and will begin play on holes 7-9. Tuesday’s final round will get underway with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.

 

The tournament, in its ninth year, is held at the 5,926-yard, par-72 Jacksonville Golf and Country Club. North Florida is the three-time defending champions entering the weekend.

OPPONENTS

• Penn State is the lone Big Ten team in the 18-team field this week joining the host Ospreys along with Chattanooga, Central Arkansas, Cincinnati, Daytona State, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Gulf Coast, Furman, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville State, North Texas, Sam Houston State, Stetson, South Alabama, Western Kentucky and Xavier.

THE TEAM

• The Nittany Lions lineup will feature senior Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) making her spring debut after returning from an injury. Willis is joined by junior classmates Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) and Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas) along with freshmen Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) and Katie Scheck (Greensboro, Ga.) in the starting lineup.
• Senior Taylor Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) will play the week as an individual.
• Willis leads the team with a 72.53 stroke average this season with her best showing coming at the Nittany Lion Invitational where she finished fifth and fired a career-best, bogey-free, 6-under, 66, during the second round.
• Scheck is coming off back-to-back strong showings to open the spring season at the Big Ten Match Play Tournament and the UCF Challenge. Scheck was victorious in all three of her individual matches during the match-play event prior to firing her lowest 54-hole total this season finishing the UCF Challenge at 4-over, 220, as she sandwiched a pair of 2-over scores around an even-par second round.
