Florida State, Wake Forest Advance to Match Play Finals of 2022 ACC Women’s Golf Championship

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (theACC.com) – 

No. 1 seed Wake Forest and No. 2 seed Florida State advanced to the match play finals of the 2022 ACC Women’s Golf Championship with semifinal victories on Saturday at The Reserve Golf Club.

The Demon Deacons earned a 3-1-1 win against No. 4 Virginia and the Seminoles defeated No. 3 Duke, 3-0-2. Wake Forest and Florida State will meet in the match play finals on Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m.

Amelia Williamson opened the scoring for Florida State with a 7&5 victory against Duke’s Anne Chen, headlined by winning all four holes played on the back nine to seal the win in her match. Alice Hodge pushed the Seminoles’ lead to 2-0 in the match with a 3&2 victory over Duke’s Megan Furtney.

Charlotte Heath clinched the match for FSU with a 3&2 win against Erica Shepherd. After the match was decided, the remaining matches were stopped and were recorded as ties.

In the second semifinal, Virginia’s Amanda Sambach logged the first victory of the match with a 6&4 win against Wake Forest’s Lauren Walsh. Sambach won holes 12, 13 and 14 to pull away for the win. Carolina Lopez-Chacarra knotted the match at 1-1 with a 2&1 win over Beth Lillie.

Wake Forest’s Mimi Rhodes defeated Virginia’s Jennifer Cleary 5&3 to give the Demon Deacons’ a 2-1 advantage before inclement weather forced a 90-minute delay. Following the break in action, Wake Forest’s Rachel Kuehn carded an eagle on hole 18 to earn a 2UP win over Virginia’s Celeste Valinho to clinch the win for the Demon Deacons.

The Seminoles are looking for their first team ACC Championship, while the Deacs’ are seeking their seventh.

Sunday’s finals of match play begin at 9 a.m. and will air live on ACC Network Extra.
