Huskers Open Play at B1G Championships


The Nebraska men’s golf team enters postseason play this weekend when it competes at the 2022 Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind., April 29-May 1.

The Huskers will be one of 14 teams taking on the par-72, 7,033-yard layout at The Pete Dye Course at the French Lick Resort.

Nebraska’s five-player lineup will be led by senior Tom Westenberger, who has been a consistent performer for the Big Red throughout the 2021-22 season. At the Quail Valley Collegiate (Oct. 18), Westenberger notched his season-best finish with a tie for 10th after firing a career-best 54-hole score of 211 (-5) powered by a 69 (-3) in the opening round. The senior from Wuppertal, Germany, has added a pair of top-25 finishes during the spring season at the Desert Mountain Collegiate and the Stitch Intercollegiate.

Senior Caleb Badura is set to golf out of the No. 2 spot for the Huskers, coming off a strong showing at the Hawkeye Invitational (April 17) where he produced Nebraska’s top team finish with a tie for 15th place and a season-best three-round score of 218 (+2). The Nebraska native shot an even-par 72 in the second round in Iowa City and closed with a 71 (-1).

Senior Branden Meyer (Gilbert, Ariz.) has made an appearance in every lineup this spring and will continue the streak at the conference meet. Meyer’s season has been highlighted by shooting a career-best round with a 69 at the Seahawk Intercollegiate (March 28) and a pair of top-25 individual finishes at the Desert Mountain Collegiate and the Hawkeye Invitational.

Reed Malleck will compete in Nebraska’s lineup for the first time of the spring season at the Big Ten Championships. During the fall, Malleck provided the top finish for the Huskers at the Rod Myers/Duke Inviational with a 223 (+7). At the Big Ten Match Play in early February, Malleck had a strong showing as the only Nebraska golfer to go 3-0-0. The sophomore from York, Neb., played as an individual at the Stitch Intercollegiate (April 8-9) and the Hawkeye Invitational (April 16-17).

Senior Mark Foelbaek (Jelling, Denmark) rounds out Nebraska’s lineup in Indiana. He has also appeared in every lineup…
