University of North Carolina’s Kayla Smith is one of 15 players named to the 2022 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golf team.
The junior from Burlington, N.C., has six top-20 finishes in eight tournaments this season, including a season-best eighth at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational last October. She tied for 19th at the ACC Championship.
Smith is second on the team in stroke average at 73.13 per round. She shot a career-low 67 in the final round of the Cougar Classic in Charleston.
“It’s a credit to Kayla’s hard work and season-long consistency to be honored in such an outstanding conference,” says UNC head coach Aimee Neff. “I couldn’t be prouder. She showed a lot of maturation on and off the course and continues to strive to get better. She wants to be one of the great players at UNC and has an opportunity to do that, given that she could play another two seasons. I’m just super pleased for Kayla and excited to see what she and our team can do in the NCAA regional.”
The Tar Heels received an invitational Wednesday to compete in the 2022 NCAA Tournament as the No. 7 seed in the Ann Arbor (Mich.) Regional.
