Wake Forest Sweeps ACC Women’s Golf Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest, which won the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golf Championship, swept the league’s annual awards and placed four players on the all-conference team announced Thursday. Wake Forest junior Rachel Kuehn was voted the league’s Player of the Year, teammate Carolina Lopez-Chacarra was selected ACC Freshman of the Year and Demon Deacons head coach Kim Lewellen was voted ACC Coach of the Year.

The All-ACC team and yearly award winners are selected by a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches. Duke’s Phoebe Brinker, the ACC individual medalist, is automatically a member of the team.

Kuehn, the sixth-ranked golfer in the country according to Golfstat, led the ACC with a 70.7 stroke average. In nine events this season, she won twice and finished in the top 10 on six occasions. A native of Asheville, North Carolina, Kuehn was instrumental in the Deacons’ run to the ACC title, eagling the 18th hole in both the match play semifinals vs. Virginia and the finals vs. Florida State to earn points.

Lopez-Chacarra, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, was second in the ACC with a 71.6 stroke average and also won two tournaments this season.

Lewellen earned her fifth ACC Coach of the Year honor and second at Wake Forest (2019, 2022). She was also the ACC Coach of the Year at Virginia in 2008, 2015 and 2016.

Wake Forest led all schools with four players on the All-ACC team, including Kuehn, Lopez-Chacarra, Lauren Walsh and Mimi Rhodes. Duke and Florida State each have three players on the team, followed by Virginia with two and Louisville, North Carolina and Virginia Tech with one each.
