2022 Big Ten Men’s Golf Championship Day 1 Results
FRENCH LICK, Ind. – The Penn State men’s golf team sits tied for fifth place in the 14-team field after the opening round of the Big Ten Championships Friday at the Pete Dye Course at French Lick.
The Nittany Lions shot 3-over, 291, as a team Friday. No. 43 Michigan State leads the field at 12-under, 276, with Wisconsin (4-under, 284) in second, No. 19 Illinois in third (2-under, 286) and No. 25 Purdue (1-under, 287) in fourth. Penn State and No. 44 Northwestern are tied for fifth with a two-stroke lead on the seventh-place team.
Freshman Jake Griffin fired Penn State’s best round of the day, a 1-under, 71, with three birdies in his final 10 holes. Griffin enters Saturday’s second round tied for ninth place.
Junior Jimmy Meyers carded an even 72 in Friday’s opening round and sits tied for 17th.
Junior Patrick Sheehan and graduate student Lou Olsakovsky both shot 2-over, 74, Friday and are tied for 31st.
Sophomore James Allen shot an 8-over, 80, and is in 67th place.
The second of three rounds of the Big Ten Championship is slated for Saturday, with tee times beginning at 9 a.m. Live scoring will continue to be available on GolfStat.
