Victory Is Fourth PGA TOUR Win For Former Cal Men’s Golfer

POTOMAC, Md. – Former Cal men’s golfer Max Homa won his fourth career PGA TOUR event and second of the season Sunday when he captured the Wells Fargo Championship for the second time in the last four years. The victory was also the 12th overall by a Cal men’s golfer on the PGA TOUR with the other winners five-time PGA TOUR champion Collin Morikawa, two-time winner James Hahn and Michael Kim. All 12 victories have come since Hahn became the first Cal player to capture a PGA TOUR event in 2015 at the Northern Trust Open.

Homa (67-66-71-68 – 272, -8) started Sunday’s final round in second place two shots behind 54-hole leader Keegan Bradley (70-65-67-72 – 274, -6) but quickly moved into the lead after two holes when he birdied the opening par-four hole and Bradley double bogeyed the par-five second. The two were even at the turn after Homa’s front-nine two-under par 33 and Bradley’s even-par 35 but Homa took the lead for good when he birdied the par-five 10th while Bradley made par. Homa extended his lead to three shots after Bradley’s second double bogey of the round on the par-four 11th. Bradley would get back to within one shot after a Homa bogey on 13 and a Bradley birdie on 14, both par fours, but Homa came through with a clutch birdie on the par-four 16th that Bradley bogeyed and then cruised home for a two-shot win.

“Perspective was running rampant today,” Homa said with a laugh and a huge smile during an interview with CBS’ Amanda Renner immediately following the win. “It feels good. Obviously, it’s a special day, especially now to me – it was already a little special [because] I’ve got a mom and a grandma.”

Renner had just referenced Mother’s Day and a recent announcement Homa and his wife, Lacey, had made about the couple expecting their first child in November.

“Life’s good,” added Homa, who was the individual winner at the 2013 NCAA Championships during his senior season at Cal. “I’ve got a good life, and I’m playing some good golf.”
