Women's Golf 10th In Ann Arbor Regional


The University of North Carolina women’s golf team is 10th after 36 holes in the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional after a second-round 306 Tuesday at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
 
Only one team shot below par in the second round, while nine of the 12 teams in the field shot at least 300. Virginia, which shot 3-under-par 281, is the leader heading into the final round with a two-day total of 7-over 575.
 
San Jose State, the No. 1 seed in the regional, is second at 578, three strokes behind the Cavaliers. Arkansas is third (+14), Michigan is fourth (+25) and Washington is fifth (+30). The top four teams advance to the NCAA Championship, which begins May 20 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
 
Four teams – Ohio State, Pepperdine, Virginia Tech and UCF – are tied for sixth place at 36 over par, a single stroke ahead of the Tar Heels.
 
Kayla Smith (2-over 74) and Krista Junkkari (75) shot UNC’s low rounds today. Nicole Adam shot 78, Natalia Aseguinolaza had a 79 and Crista Izuzquiza finished with an 80.
 
Smith is tied for 13th place at 4-over 146 and Junkkari is tied for 17th at 5-over 147.
 
The third and final round of the regional is Wednesday.
