Pack Wraps Up Season at NCAA New Haven Regional

NEW HAVEN, CT –

The NC State men’s golf team closed its 2021-22 season Wednesday afternoon with a 12th place finish at the NCAA New Haven Regional played at Yale Golf Club.

Easton Paxton led NC State with a 15th place finish, finishing the tournament at two-under par. The Riverton, Wyo., native shot back-to-back rounds of even-par 70 on Monday and Tuesday before shooting a 68 on Wednesday

The tournament marked the final career appearance at NC State for Paxton. He leaves NC State with the most rounds completed in program history at 155 and his career stroke average ranks in the top-10 in program history.

Paxton is the only NC State golfer that is completing his eligibility this season. The rest of the Pack’s lineup from this season all has eligibility to return next season.

Junior Maximilian Steinlechner finished in a tie for 50th place at eight-over par. The Austria native shot a 72 in the first round before back-to-back rounds of 73 on Tuesday and Wednesday.

This tournament marked only the second one of the season that Steinlechner did not finish below par through 54 holes. He finishes the season with a 71.07 stroke average which is the ninth-best single season scoring average in program history.

Steinlechner’s career stroke average of 71.20 is the second-best career stroke average in program history.

Ethan Choi was next for the Pack in a tie for 62nd place. Choi had his best round of the tourney on Wednesday, shooting a one-under par 69 and

Spencer Oxendine finished in a tie for 69th place. The Fayetteville native opened the tournament with an even-par 70, but finished out with rounds of 77 and 80 on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Carter Graf rounded out the NC State lineup in 72nd place with a final scorecard of 75-79-76.

Despite the tough finish to the season, the Pack won three tournaments in the 2021-22 season and finished in second place in two additional tourneys. NC State has won seven tournament titles dating back to March 2021. The seven wins in the last two seasons are the most in back-to-back seasons for NC State since the program won nine tournament titles between the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons.

Wake Forest won the regional by seven shots over North Carolina. Texas Tech and North Florida tied for third place and Georgia Southern finished in fifth place. Those five teams will advance to the NCAA…
