Bruins Tied for Third After Day Two of NCAA Championships

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The No. 14-seed UCLA women’s golf team moved into a tie for third-place in the overall team leaderboard on Saturday, the second day of the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club.

 

Overall, UCLA and Auburn are tied for third place, having shot 10-over 586 through both rounds. Stanford leads the field at 5-over 581 and Oregon is second at 9-over 585.

 

Following those four schools are fifth-place LSU (11-over 587), sixth-place Texas A&M (13-over 589) and seventh-place Florida State (15-over 591).

 

UCLA shot 3-over 291 on Saturday, tied for the fourth-best team score that afternoon among the 24 competing institutions. The Bruins, along with LSU and Georgia, all finished 3-over 291 on Saturday.

 

Ty Akabane (t-11 overall), Emma Spitz (t-16) and Alessia Nobilio (t-19) all rank among the top 20 individual performers, through the first two days on the course in Scottsdale. Spitz and Caroline Canales shot an even par 72 on Saturday, while Akabane finished 2-over 74 on the second day of action

 

Akabane leads the Bruins on the leaderboard, tied for the No. 11 spot, having shot 1-over 145 through both days. She finished with two birdies and one double bogey on Saturday. Akabane birdied the par-4 2nd and the par-4 14th.

 

Spitz birdied four holes on Saturday, including the par-4 2nd, the par-3 8th, the par-4 9th, and the par-4 10th.

 

Nobilio shot 1-over 73 on Saturday. She had four birdies through the front nine holes, finishing 1-under 35 heading into the back nine. Nobilio birdied the par-4 3rd, the par-4 6th, the par-5 7th, and the par-3 8th.

 

Canales is currently tied for 30th on the leaderboard at 4-over 148. She finished with three birdies on Saturday afternoon.

 

Emilie Paltrinieri shot 12-over 84 on the second day of action.

 

The Bruins began the second round of action on the first tee just after 11:40 a.m. (PT). UCLA will start its third round on Sunday (May 22) at approximately 6:30 a.m. (PT) from the 10th tee. 

 

About the NCAA Championships: The six-day event includes 24 teams and 12 individuals that will complete 54 holes of stroke play across the first three days (Friday, May 20 through Sunday, May 22).
