SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The No. 14-seed UCLA women’s golf team registered a fourth-place finish through the first three days of the NCAA Championships, advancing to the next round at Grayhawk Golf Club.
UCLA shot 4-over 292 on Sunday afternoon, the third day of the NCAA Championship competition. The Bruins were among the top 15 teams to advance to Monday’s additional day of stroke play.
Stanford finished atop the team leaderboard, shooting even par 864, followed by Oregon (9-over 873) and Texas A&M (13-over 877). UCLA shot 14-over 878 through three days, well ahead of the fifth-place team, Auburn (21-over 885).
Ty Akabane led the Bruins through the first three days with a top-five finish. She shot 1-over 217 over those three days and was even par 72, along with Alessia Nobilio, on Sunday afternoon.
Akabane finished with two birdies and two bogeys, while Nobilio recorded three birdies, one bogey and one double bogey.
Nobilio finished 3-over 219 after Sunday’s third round and was tied for 14th, while Emma Spitz and Caroline Canales both shot 5-over 221 (tied for the 20th spot in three days of stroke play).
Canales finished 1-over 73 on Sunday, Spitz shot 3-over 75 and Zoe Antoinette Campos was 4-over 76.
UCLA registered the fifth-best score in the field on Sunday with a 4-over 292 performance.
The Bruins will begin stroke play on the first tee on Monday at approximately 10:55 a.m. (PT), alongside Auburn and Florida State. The top eight teams (out of 15) will advance to match play on Tuesday.
About the NCAA Championships: The six-day event includes 24 teams and 12 individuals that completed 54 holes of stroke play across the first three days (Friday, May 20 through Sunday, May 22). After Sunday’s third round, the top 15 teams (along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team) will compete for one additional day of stroke play on Monday to determine the top eight teams for match play competition (as well as the 72-hole stroke play individual champion).
The top eight teams will begin match play on Tuesday, May 24, and the team national championship will be decided on the final…
