GREENSBORO, N.C. (TheACC.com) – Florida State’s Amelia Williamson is the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the 2022 All-ACC Academic Team announced Monday.
Williamson becomes the first Seminole to earn the ACC’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award since the award was established in 2007. A native of Norfolk, England, Williamson earned second-team All-America honors from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association and was an All-ACC selection for the first time in her career in 2022. She earned her bachelor’s degree in sport management in April and will work on a second degree in economics during the 2022-23 academic year. Williamson competed in the 2022 Curtis Cup and will play in the 2022 Palmer Cup in July, two international events that feature the top college golfers in the world. Williamson was third in the conference with a 72.04 stroke average and finished 17th in Golfstat’s final rankings.
Thirteen of the 15 student-athletes who earned All-ACC honors this season also secured spots on the academic honors team, including ACC Player of the Year Rachel Kuehn of Wake Forest and Freshman of the Year Carolina Lopez-Chacarra of Wake Forest. Other players also earned All-ACC and All-ACC Academic honors are: Duke’s Phoebe Brinker, Anne Chen and Erica Shepherd, Florida State’s Alice Hodge and Williamson, Louisville’s Kendall Griffin, North Carolina’s Kayla Smith, Virginia’s Jennifer Cleary and Amanda Sambach, Virginia Tech’s Emily Mahar and Wake Forest’s Lauren Walsh.
Virginia led the way with five honorees each, followed by Wake Forest with four and Duke with three. Miami’s Kristyna Frydlova and Virginia’s Beth Lillie were honored for the fourth time.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
