BROOKLINE, Massachusetts — Alumnus Matt Fitzpatrick won the 2022 United States Open Championship Sunday at The Country Club, the site where he captured his 2013 U.S. Amateur title the summer before joining the Wildcats. He sealed the one-stroke victory over final pairing partner Will Zalatoris and Masters champ Scottie Scheffler by shooting 2-under across the last seven holes of the day to card his third 68 (68-70-68-68 [274]) of the tournament.

He joins Jack Nicklaus as the only players to win the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open at the same venue. Jack did it at Pebble Beach in 1961 and 1972. pic.twitter.com/FVO0M1bByC
