PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men’s golf program has added Florida Southern transfer Noah Kumar to the 2022-23 roster.
Kumar, an incoming junior is a native of Sarasota, Fl., who went to Cardinal Mooney High School. Kumar (6-foot-1, 175 lbs.) played in nine tournaments for the Mocs in 2021-22 as a. Kumar excelled in the classroom and was a member of the South Southern Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll last season. Kumar visited the campus last week and instantly felt at home with the RU coaching staff of head coach Rob Shutte and assistant coach Ryan Rose.
“I was looking for a new opportunity and Coach Shutte was looking for a golfer who could help make a difference in the program,” Kumar said. “We have been talking for a few months and on my visit this past week I really fell in love with the facilities and the school. I am ready to make a difference for Rutgers.”
“Coach Shutte and Coach Rose have been very open and transparent with me throughout this whole process,” Kumar said. “It’s something I really appreciate. I feel like both exemplify integrity in coaches. They are the whole package for a college team and college coaches. Coach Shutte is one of the harder working coaches out there. I couldn’t be happier to compete under him.”
“We are excited to welcome Noah Kumar to the Rutgers men’s golf family,” Shutte said. “Noah has exceptional potential, and we believe he will fit in with our roster. We look forward to Noah being a Scarlet Knight in 2022-23.”
Kumar tallied a 74.11 stroke average with a low round of 66, which came during the third round of the NSU Shark Invitational, where he turned in his best tournament of the year of six-under 207 for third place.
The golfer had two top-10 finishes including third at the NSU Shark Invitational and eighth at the Matlock Collegiate Classic. Kumar had seven rounds of par or better at nine tournaments on the year.
Kumar hopes his experience in Division 2 will transfer over to the Big Ten.
“It means a lot to come and compete in the Big Ten,” Kumar said. “I played for a division 2 school my first two years and it’s a different scene obviously. I am really excited for the opportunity that Rutgers and the Big Ten have provided me.”
Kumar is very familiar with Weston Jones of the Scarlet Knights, whom he met and competed with at a junior tournament in high school….
