DP World Tour chief issues scathing response to LIV…

Keith Pelley, the CEO of the DP World Tour, issued a scathing response to a threat of legal action by 16 LIV golfers.

The group, including Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood, demanded the tour retract the punishment it issued to those playing in the Saudi-backed rebel circuit or face court action.

However, Pelley – who earlier this week announced a strengthened “strategic partnership” with the PGA Tour to combat the LIV threat – claimed the players’ letter contained “so many inaccuracies it cannot remain unchallenged”.

He also questioned the players’ insistence they “care deeply” about the DP World Tour, and revealed one player signed an agreement to play in this week’s Irish Open before instead teeing it up at LIV Portland.

“The letter claims that these players ‘care deeply’ for the DP World Tour,” he said.

“An analysis of the past participation statistics on our Tour in recent years of several of the leading players named, suggests otherwise.

“One player in particular named in the note has only played six Rolex Series events in the past five years. Another one, only four. I wish many of them had been as keen to play on our Tour…
