CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women’s Golf Coaches Association has announced its yearly All-American Scholars for college golf, and Arizona Women’s Golf had five student-athletes included in the national award. Maya Benita, Ya Chung Chang, Carolina Melgrati Gile Bite Starkute and Caitlin Whitehead made the WGCA’s All-American Scholar Team, which requires cumulative GPA’s of 3.50 and above.
The trio of Benita, Chang and Starkute all repeated as WGCA All-American Scholar honorees as members of the 2020-21 team while Melgrati and Whitehead made the team as true freshmen. The Wildcats are annual fixtures in the All-American Scholar Teams with 49 award winners since 1992.
The national honor from the WGCA is not the program’s only academic accolade this year. Coach Ianello and the Wildcats posted a team GPA of 3.821 in the spring, which was the highest among all of Arizona’s 21 programs. It also marked the high spring semester GPA in team history.
