Tiger Trio Named WGCA Scholars


COLUMBIA, Mo. – Announced earlier this week, three members of the University of Missouri women’s golf program were named to the 2021-22 Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team.

Rising sophomore Hallie Kuhns, rising junior Emily Staples and rising senior Sophia Yoemans were among the 1,485 women’s collegiate golfers were recognized with this prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team includes a minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and participation in 50 percent of the team’s competitions.

Both Staples and Yoemans played 27 rounds in nine tournaments last season. Kuhns played 13 rounds in five tournaments. Yoemans paced the Tigers with a 74.2 stroke average. As a squad, Mizzou posted three-top finishes in 2021-2022.

In June, Caroline Westrup was introduced as the Tigers’ new head coach after a successful stint as an assistant coach at Georgia in 2021-22. She spent nine seasons competing as a professional and started her coaching career at IMG Academy.

In July, alumna Michelle Parrish was named assistant coach. Formerly Michelle Butler, she was a standout at Mizzou from 2011-16 and most recently served as the men’s and women’s golf head coach at Columbia College. As a player for the Tigers, Parrish earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors after a record-breaking season in 2016 which saw her post a program-best 72.59 stroke average.
