East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State Head Men’s Golf Coach Casey Lubahn announced today that Drew Hackett has signed a National-Letter-of-Intent and will join the program for the 2022-23 academic year.
Hackett joins the Spartans after spending three years as a member of the men’s golf team at UNC-Wilmington in North Carolina.
“I’m very excited to add Drew to our roster and welcome him to the Spartan Family,” Lubahn said. “He’s a very talented player who has had some pretty impressive results coming out of a very good program at UNC Wilmington. We’re looking forward to him joining our program.”
This past season, Hackett played in all 11 tournaments for the Seahawks, competing in 32 rounds and finishing fourth on the team with a 72.93 stroke average. He posted back-to-back top-five finishes, shooting a 3-under par 141 to place second at the Forest Creek Collegiate, and carding a 4-under par 212 to finish in fifth at the Seahawk Intercollegiate. Hackett had four tournaments where he shot par or better, including a season-best 4-under par 212 at the Seahawk.
As a sophomore in 2021, Hackett was a second-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection after leading the team with a 72.93 stroke average and appeared in the NCAA Noblesville Regional. He finished in second place at the Seahawk Intercollegiate, firing a 7-under par 209, and was named the CAA Golfer of the Week.
Hackett played in six events (18 rounds) as a freshman, finishing with four rounds of par-or-better golf. He carded a 4-under par 68 and finished 2-under par at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate for a 32nd place finish.
Hackett’s father, Jeff, played golf at Ferris State and his mother, Jenny, was on the team at Bowling Green.
