Cantlay Shoots 2-under 70 in Round One of The Open Championship


ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Former UCLA men’s golf standout Patrick Cantlay (2010-11) opened round one of the 150th Open Championship at the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland with a 2-under 70 on Thursday.
 
Cantlay, who teed off at 7:21 a.m. PT this morning, has now opened three of his four appearances at The Open dating back to 2018 with a 2-under 70. His best finish came in his debut at the major in 2018 at Carnoustie with a T-12th result at 3-under 281.
 
Cantlay opened with an even-par front nine that featured a birdie on the par four seventh hole. He proceeded to close out the day with three birdies on the par four 10th, par five 14th and par four 18th to sit tied for 27th.
 
Cameron Young sits atop the leaderboard at 8-under with a two-stroke lead on the field.
