BOULDER — University of Colorado men’s golf coach Roy Edwards has completed his 2022-23 recruiting class with the addition of Tucker Clark, who is transferring to the CU program from the University of Notre Dame.
One of the nation’s top recruits in the 2020 freshman class, Clark played his true freshman season for the Fighting Irish, appearing in all seven tournaments that spring with four top 25 finishes. He redshirted last season while recovering from elbow and ankle injuries and will have three years to play three in eligibility for the Buffaloes.
For spring ’21 season (there was no competition in the fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic), he finished fourth on the Irish with a 72.52 stroke average (for 21 rounds), with bests of 65 (7-under) for 18 holes and 205 (11-under) for 54, the latter two being team bests. Seventeen of those rounds counted toward Notre Dame’s team score, and he owned a subpar percentage of 21.3 (78 birdies and two eagles for 378 holes played). Clark tied for 20th in his first collegiate meet, Florida State’s Camp Creek Seminole Invitational (217, +1), and also led the team in the Stitch Intercollegiate when he tied for seventh with an 11-under 205 effort (65-74-66).
“We were very happy when Tucker told us he was going to become a Buff,” Edwards said. “He is an amazing talent who can shoot some very low scores. Tucker was a player who was very highly-recruited in high school and a guy we really wanted then and are fortunate to have now. We look forward to him having a great career here at Colorado.”
Junior Golf Scoreboard ranked him as the No. 15 player in the nation for the Class of 2020, based on his high school and junior golf accomplishments. He led Arcadia High School (Scottsdale, Ariz.) to a pair of state titles, and claimed the individual crown when the Titans won the second time in 2018, turning in a 6-under 64 scorecard. In 2017, he was the Antigua National High School Invitational individual champion (70-68—138, -6), with Arcadia also claiming the team title. A nominee for both the 2017 and 2018 Arizona High School Athlete of the Year, he was an Arizona Junior Golf Ambassador six years.
