Women’s Golf Recognized as Top-25 Academic Program for Sixth Consecutive Season


PISCATAWAY, N.J. – For the sixth consecutive season, Rutgers women’s golf was pegged one of the nation’s top 25 programs in academic performance by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). With their 3.765 team GPA for the 2021-22 academic year, the Scarlet Knights were 25th nationally and were one of just two Big Ten programs to appear on the prestigious list.
 
Six RU student-athletes – Leigha DevineNicole EwingSun HwangRikke NordvikLucrezia Rossettin and Maeve Rossi – were named 2022 WGCA Division I All-American Scholars, with all securing 3.50 or above cumulative GPAs this past season.
 
Under head coach Kari Williams‘ leadership, the Scarlet Knights have now accumulated 39 All-America Scholar awards since 2015. Seven Scarlet Knights – Devine, Ewing, Hwang, Nordvik, Rossi, Anna-Maria Diederichs and Annalie Swanepoel – earned 2022 Academic All-Big Ten recognition this past spring, while Devine, Diederichs, Ewing, Hwang, Rossi and Swanepoel all earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolades.
 
Rutgers wrapped up another successful season both on the links and in the classroom, as the Scarlet Knights set several program records during the 2021-22 scholastic campaign. The Scarlet Knights carded their lowest ever tournament round (nine under) at the Jackrabbit Invitational and produced individual wins over Indiana and Iowa at 2022 Big Ten Match Play to finish sixth in the conference event. RU’s scoring average of 302.72 was the fourth lowest in school history, while Diederichs produced the first individual title for the program since 2019.

The Women’s Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 650 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
