Four Nittany Lions Named GCAA All-America Scholars


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – A program-record four Penn State men’s golf student-athletes, James Allen, Jimmy Meyers, Lou Olsakovsky and Patrick Sheehan, were announced as Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Thursday afternoon.
 
The annual list that honors the nation’s top student-athletes included a program-record four Nittany Lions. Penn State previously had three student-athletes named GCAA All-America Scholars on five different occasions, including each of the last two seasons. Olsakovsky earns the honor for the third-straight year, while Allen, Meyers and Sheehan are all first-time recipients.
 
To be eligible the for the honor, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 In addition, they must participate in 50-percent of their team’s competitive rounds and have a stroke-average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I.
 

Olsakovsky earns his third-straight GCAA All-America honor after capping off his stellar Penn State career by qualifying as an individual for NCAA Regionals and earning All-Region Honors. Olsakovsky ranked second on the team this season with a 72.08 stroke average. He collected six top-15 finishes throughout his final season in the Blue & White, including a pair of top-10 placements.
 
Allen collects his first GCAA All-America honor following a strong sophomore season in which he ranked third on the team with a 73.48 stroke average. His sophomore campaign was highlighted by a first-place performance in Penn State’s Rutherford Intercollegiate in April.
 
Meyers put together a strong junior season in which he owned a 73.53 stroke average through 30 rounds. Meyers collected a top-5 finish and a pair of top-10 placements throughout his junior season and earned All-Region accolades at the conclusion of the season. He picks up his first-career GCAA All-America Scholar award.
 
Sheehan earns his first GCAA All-America honor after a stellar junior season in which he collected All-Region and second team All-Big Ten honors. Sheehan qualified for NCAA Regionals as an individual and led the Nittany Lions this season with a 70.94 stroke average. He collected six top-10 finishes and eight top-15 finishes throughout the 2021-22 season.
