Four Sun Devils Named Srixon/Cleveland Golf NCAA All-America Scholars


Four Sun Devil have been named 2021-22 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the GCAA.

Ryggs Johnston, James Leow, David Puig and Cameron Sisk all earned the honor.

 

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate’s Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

 

440 NCAA Division I athletes from 157 schools earned 2021-22 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors.

The Sun Devils took one step closer to its goal of its third NCAA Championship this year with its 2022 second-place finish, as it beat No. 1 ranked Oklahoma and defending NCAA Champion Pepperdine in match play before losing to Texas, 3 & 2, on June 1. It was the best finish for ASU since the 1996 team won the national title, fresh off a tie for third last year. ASU has had back-to-back finishes of third or better for the first time since Phil Mickelson led ASU to three straight top-three finishes.

Johnston has played in 28 tournaments in his career and has a 71.54 stroke average and 21 rounds in the 60s and earned All-America honors in 2020-21. Leow finished his 18-tournament career in the spring that included a 2022 Thunderbird Collegiate victory.

Sisk finished in the top 15 in the final Velocity Global Ranking to earn membership on a PGA TOUR international tour beginning the week after the NCAA Championship. He finished his career as a three-time All-American with 44 tournaments and 135 rounds played and a 71.21…
