Smith Places in Top Five at Sea Island Women’s Amateur


DURHAM – For the second straight year, Duke incoming freshman Andie Smith placed in the top 10 at the Sea Island Women’s Amateur as she carded rounds of 71, 70 and 71 for a 2-over-par, 212, at the Seaside Course in St. Simons Island, Ga.

Smith, who hails from Hobe Sound, Fla., placed tied for fifth in 2022, after turning in a tied for seventh placement in 2021. Over the 54 holes this week, Smith carded 11 birdies, which ranked tied for the second-most in the field.  

Kayla Holden posted a 2-under, 208, to claim individual medalist accolades.  

In the Women’s Western Amateur, senior Megan Furtney advanced to match play, before falling in the round of 32, 2&1, to Rianne Mikhaela Malixi.  Furtney, who is from St. Charles, Ill., placed tied for 30th with rounds of 74 and 77.  Blue Devil sophomore Rylie Heflin missed the cut with rounds of 83 and 76.
