Five Vols—Josh Hill, Bryce Lewis, Cade Russell, Caleb Surratt and Jet Tickle—are set to be part of the 312-golfer field at this week’s 122nd U.S. Amateur in Paramus, New Jersey.
The five current players are believed to be tied for the most ever from UT to play in the U.S. Amateur at one time, matching the total of five at the 2020 U.S. Amateur.
In 2020, Spencer Cross, Brayden Garrison, Lewis, Rhys Nevin and Hunter Wolcott competed in the event at Bandon Dunes in Oregon, with Wolcott advancing to the Round of 32 in match play.
This year’s U.S. Amateur runs Aug. 15-21, with the first two days featuring 18 holes of stroke play apiece, before moving into match play for the remainder of the event.
Vol golfers have had past success at the U.S. Amateur. Oliver Goss finished runner-up in 2013, while Eric Rebmann finished runner-up in 1987.
In last year’s event at Oakmont Country Club, Surratt advanced to the Round of 32 in match play, while assistant coach Bo Andrews fell in the Round of 64 to the event’s eventual runner-up.
