WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For the fourth time this year, the Wake Forest women’s golf team will be represented at the highest international amateur level.
Four Demon Deacons are set to compete in the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship at Le Golf National in Paris, France, August 24-27. The championship was last played in 2018 in Ireland, with the team from the United States capturing the Espirito Santo Trophy for a record 14th time.
Seniors Rachel Kuehn and Lauren Walsh will be competing for the United States and Ireland, respectively. Sophomore Carolina Chacarra will be competing for Spain and incoming freshmen Anne-Sterre den Dunnen will compete for the Netherlands.
Following the Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) in April, the Curtis Cup in June and the Arnold Palmer Cup in July, this will be the fourth time this calendar year the Wake Forest women’s golf team has had representation at the highest international level of amateur golf.
Kuehn, a WGCA All-America First Team selection and All-America Scholar, led the Deacs with a 71.18 stroke average over 33 rounds this season. She had seven top 10 finishes with five of them coming inside the top five. She earned ACC Player of the Year and All-ACC honors at the conclusion of the regular season. She was also named one of 10 finalists for the 2022 ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel.
On the international circuit, she competed at the Arnold Palmer Cup for the third time, the Curtis Cup for the second time and played in the ANWA for the second time.
Chacarra, a WGCA All-America Second Team selection and All-America Scholar, was second on the team with a 71.79 stroke average over 33 rounds this season. She had five top 10 finishes with four of them coming inside the top five. She earned ACC Freshman of the Year and All-ACC honors at the conclusion of the regular season. She was also named one of 10 finalists for the 2022 ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel.
On the international circuit, she competed in the ANWA and the Arnold Palmer Cup for the first time.
Walsh, a 2022 Curtis Cup and All-ACC member, also earned WGCA All-America Scholar honors. She played in the lineup for seven regular season events during the 2021-22 season and played as an individual at the Landfall Tradition last October.
