Anna Temple, a former golfer at Cal and 10-year head coach at UC Davis, has joined the Washington staff as associate head golf coach and recruiting coordinator, UW women’s golf head coach Mary Lou Mulflur announced today.
Temple comes to Seattle after decade as head coach at UC Davis, having previously worked as an assistant at her alma mater, the University of California.
“I am thrilled to announce Anna Temple as our new associate head coach and recruiting coordinator,” Mulflur said. “I have known Anna since she was a student-athlete at Cal and know she is the right fit for Washington and our team at this time. She is extremely hard-working and brings valuable experience as an assistant at a Power Five program, as well as a head coach for 10 seasons at UC Davis. Anna will make our student-athletes and program better; I can’t wait to get her in purple!”
Temple led UC Davis to three straight Big West championships in 2013, 2014 and 2015, earning the conference’s Coach of the Year award for each of those seasons. She also guided the Aggies to five consecutive NCAA Championships appearances during her tenure in Davis.
Among other highlights, her Aggies team reached a national ranking as high as No. 11, her team won the Big West in her first season (2012-13) with Aggie golfers finishing first, second, third and fourth to earn a 29-stroke team victory. The following year, UC Davis won the league crown by 16 strokes.
In her third year, 2014-15, Temple’s team won the Big West once more and then finished third at the NCAA South Bend Regional, earning a trip to the NCAA Championships.
Temple, a former all-region player at Cal during her senior season in 2004, was an assistant coach at her alma mater from 2008-12. She played three years at Cal after transferring from Wisconsin following her freshman season.
She also enjoyed an outstanding amateur career, qualifying four times for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship (2000-02, ’04), including a berth in the quarterfinals in her first trip. Another highlight was her third-place finish at the 2004 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship.
Temple’s professional career included time in the Durmaed Futures Tour in 2005-06 and nearly three dozen tournaments on the European Ladies Tour. She also played briefly on the Ladies African Tour in 2008. Her top finish was in the tour’s 2008 WPGA Master’s, falling in a playoff for top honors.
