WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue men’s golfers Herman Sekne, Andrew Farraye and Peyton Snoeberger have been named by the Big Ten Conference as 2022-23 men’s golfers to watch for the upcoming season.
The Boilermakers open their season Sept. 11, at the Badger Invite in Madison, Wisconsin.
Sekne, a junior from Oslo, Norway, is one of the top golfers in the Big Ten. A year ago, he had one of the top-statistical seasons in Purdue history, ranking second (behind Williamson) in stroke average (71.17) and his nine rounds in the 60s were the fourth most in school history. He won back-to-back events at the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate and Purdue Fall Invitational and was selected as the Big Ten Golfer of the Week four times – the second most honors in Big Ten history. Sekne had three tournaments last year of 205 or lower, the most in school history, and had five top-10 finishes in 10 events.
For his career, he ranks first in stroke average (72.25) by over half-a-stroke in front of Austin Eoff (72.82). Sekne was a first-team All-Big Ten selection.
Sekne finished the 2022 season ranked 64th nationally by Golfstat and is currently ranked No. 145 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
Farraye, a grad student from St. Augustine, Florida, had a strong season a year ago, posting a 73.41 stroke average with two top-10 showings, including a T-9 performance at the Big Ten Championships. He also finished T-19 at the Calusa Cup and T-11 at the Boilermaker Invitational. Farraye owns a 73.79 career stroke average, good for 13th in school history
Snoeberger, a senior from Williamsport, Indiana, was named thanks to the strong summer that he just wrapped up. He advanced to the round of 32 match play at the U.S. Amateur and finished second at the Indiana Open. A year ago, he finished T-11 and T-14 at Purdue’s two home events.
