Pebble Beach, Calif. – The first 18 holes of the 2022-23 season have been carded from Pebble Beach. After the first round of play, the Bulldogs are sixth (380, 20-over) and three shots back of the No. 24 ranked Raiders of Texas Tech (377, 17-over).
On a messy day at Pebble Beach, defending national champion and consensus No. 1 Stanford shares the 18-hole lead with No. 11 Texas A&M after the first round. Both the Cardinal and Aggies shot a team score of 358 (-2 overall).
No. 15 Oklahoma State finished third after carding a six-over team round of 366, while No. 22 Arkansas is five shots back at +11 overall (371) in fourth. No. 50 Oklahoma (+24) and No. 33 Vanderbilt (+32) round out the eight-team field.
The Bulldogs were led throughout the day by Julia Lopez Ramirez and Abbey Daniel who both carded top-10 performances in the first round.
Lopez Ramirez began her sophomore campaign by turning in her 22nd under-par round in the maroon and white with a 1-under 71 first round. On the front nine, Lopez Ramirez started with five straight pars before sinking her first birdie of the season on hole 6 before adding two more on holes 12 and 14 to finish even on the back nine. In 36 career rounds at MSU, 22 of them from Lopez Ramirez have been par or better.
Daniel finished tied for ninth with an even-par score of 72. Daniel used a strong stretch of eight straight pars on the back nine followed by a birdie on hole 18 to finish in the top-10. Throughout the first 18 holes of the season, Daniel parred a round high 14 of them.
Ashley Gilliam finished the day tied for 27th with a 77 (5-over) first round. The senior found her groove on holes 3-12, sinking a birdie and parring 9.
Hannah Levi birdied on holes 4 and 12 to finish tied for 33rd with 7-over (79). The fifth-year Bulldog finished the first round with 3.00 (E) when it came to par-3 scoring, the third best of the round.
In her first team event with the Bulldogs, Jarutrawee Khotchagrai sunk the only eagle of the first day of the Carmel Cup on hole 6. After sinking the first eagle of the 2022-23 season for State, Khotchagrai finished tied for 42nd with 9-over (81).
Izzy Pellot, who made her collegiate debut Friday, carded an 82 in her first round at State to finish tied for 46th.
